Living in God’s Presence

Living in God’s Presence

Living in God’s presence is where we should desire to exist and make decisions from. It is the place where we’re most susceptible to His suggestions. It’s the place where we can clearly see what God is doing in our lives, and we receive strength from Him to lay down our lives and pick up His.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “As for you, if you live in my presence as your father David lived, pure in heart and action, living the life I’ve set out for you, attentively obedient to my guidance and judgments, then I’ll back your kingly rule over Israel—make it a sure thing on a sure foundation.”

We will have influence in our God-given sphere if we can walk in the presence of the Holy Spirit. This is how we need to enter our mission field, whether that is our job, coaching a youth sport, or going overseas on a short or long term mission. Only then can we learn to really love our neighbors, care for the disadvantaged, and empathize with the downtrodden. His presence gives us strength, joy, and hope to share with those that need it.

Existing in a state where His presence dwells within us, and over us is achieved by spending quality time with God. Reading scripture, praying, and (of course) singing to Him create conditions for intimacy to occur. His presence is a result of intimacy. We must be able to attain that intimacy to achieve that bond.

It’s like with a spouse or a child, and you know what they are feeling or thinking, because you know them intimately. It is the same with God. Sure, we can’t know exactly what’s on God’s mind, except that which He shares with us, but He wants us to know Him, and rewards those that seek Him.

The presence of God in our lives should be sought after with more diligence than material wealth. It draws us near our Creator, helps us to determine the correct path for our life, and helps us to really love our neighbor, all worthy goals.
